The Sanskrit word for garland, a Mala 
is an ancient spiritual tool that’s been used for thousands of years to help keep accurate count of mantras (or intentions) during a meditation. Traditionally, a Mala is made up of 108 beads, finished with a guru or gratitude bead, as 108 is considered a powerful and auspicious number for a repetitive mantra. The guru bead is last to close your meditation with gratitude for the teacher in all things. Finally, the strings come together in the tassel to symbolize that all things are connected.
